wisdom teeth...how smart are they???
Submitted by the_ONE_guy_in_HI on Wed, 04/08/2009 - 5:29pm.
Tomorrow, the 9th of April I will be getting my wisdom teeth pulled (all 4 at once). I’m not looking foreword to it because I hate going to the dentist, I just feel very uncomfortable with someone else's hands in my mouth. I was wondering how it went for everyone who has had them taken out already. Any advice you can offer to help calm my nerves would be greatly appreciated. And last, why are they called wisdom teeth??? I've never claimed to be smart but if I get them pulled will I become stupid???
peace.

I had my wisdom teeth were taken out when I was 19. Of course, I hated dentists too. Still not a big fan. But I have never had a bad experience. I was supposed to get my bottom wisdom teeth out on the day I went. They ended up taking all four.
It started with the anesthesia. After the Novocaine, they gave me the laughing gas and told me to count from 100 to 0 backwards.
I made it. Totally serious. When I was at 55 the doc rolled his eyes and told one of his assistants to ready the needle. Now I hate needles but the gas was having somewhat of an effect. So I didn't really notice the needle prick.
"Ok, lets try this again. Count from 100 to 0 backwards."

"Finally!"
Though I did not hear him say that, I can only imagine that's what he was saying. The wisdom teeth removal went well, as far as I was concerned. I never felt a thing. The doc wasn't happy though. They had to break my bottom wisdom teeth into 3rds to get them out. They took the tops too because they would end up the same way.
After the procedure I was as high as a kite in a Florida hurricane. I asked the nurse that helped my mom get me to the car out 4 times. She said no all four times. Damnit. The surgery was on a Wednesday, I stayed home Thursday and went to work on a Friday. Not much swelling and very little pain and I used only Bayer aspirin for a few days.
All in all, not a bad experience. Good luck Erik!
Just try to go limp.
All four at once? I wanted to do that... my dentist wouldn't go for it. Looks like you'll be eating mashed potatoes and jello for the next month?
And... my teeth are retarded, I'd never copy off of my teeth, if I were sitting next to them in an exam.
By now, you've already gotten them ripped out, though. I hated the tasting blood for the next couple weeks part, too.
Hey Erik?
How'd the wisdom teeth procedure come out? Excuse the pun.
its six days later and im doing fine. after a 5 day binge of vicodin, weed and jello, i returned to work yesterday. still feeling the effects of the high, i made it through 8 hours. thank god i work with competent people who can hold down the fort while i was gone. no real pain and the taste of blood is almost completely gone. thanks for asking.
peace.
erik.
